Whether in speech or in song, the point is to communicate.
Composer, Musicologist & Writer
Jessica Buford has juggled the dual calls of musical and written language since childhood. Born in Bluefield, West Virginia, she grew up in a rich musical landscape, filled with everything from Gospel, Sousa marches, and R&B to Top 40s Pop.
Her love for text and sound drives her work as a writer, composer, and musical scholar. Among her creative and research interests are black sacred music, choral music, and film scores.
Above all, her lofty goal is for any audience’s applause at the end of a performance to come from appreciation, thought, or emotional evocation… not relief.
